Carol and Eric Were Married in Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort
We met 10 years ago through mutual friends at a party. After our first date, in ‘romantic’ Eddie Rockets, we both knew there was a spark and that there was something special between us.
Eric proposed to me on a weekend away for my birthday. I didn’t think anything of it as we usually go away for my birthday as it falls around the Easter weekend most years. We stayed at the Glasson Country House Hotel and the hotel upgraded us to a suite upon arrival. We went down for dinner on the first evening and Eric had said he wanted to change his top after we had our meal. As soon as I opened the door to our room, I was greeted by a candle lit room with flowers and petals everywhere.
I turned to find Eric on his knee with the most beautiful ring
I was completely in shock as I was not expecting it at all. Of course I said “Yes!”.
We wanted a venue where we could have both our Humanist ceremony and also the reception but have the feeling of two separate venues. A lot of venues we visited had the ceremony and reception in the same room.
When we visited Mount Wolseley Hotel in Carlow, it ticked all of our boxes
The driveway up to the hotel was just beautiful with the surrounding grounds. We got the feeling that this was our hotel as soon as we walked in. The hotel had a separate ceremony room at one end of the hotel and the reception area at the other end so you felt like you were in two separate venues. The reception area was also away from the main lobby which was a big plus for us. Food was a big point in our wedding plans and we could not fault the wedding meal. It was absolutely delicious. Another plus for us on the hotel was that it had plenty of photo opportunities in the hotel in case the weather was not in our favour on the day.
Thankfully we had a gorgeous day and were able to make the most of the beautiful grounds.
Our wedding planner Gill Long was just amazing. She was so helpful and no task was too big or small for her. We knew our special day was in safe hands under her control. She really helped to keep it as stress free as possible. Even the small touches of coming to visit me in my room before I went to the ceremony was such a nice touch. We chose to have our wedding over the Easter weekend. From the moment we arrived on Good Friday till the moment we left on Easter Monday, we found the staff of the hotel to be so helpful. Friends and family all felt the same after the weekend. We had the venue styled by Vintage Affair which helped to add to an already stunning venue.
I purchased my dress in Ciara Bridal, Powerscourt. I had a good idea of the style of dress I wanted and when I saw the dress in Ciara Bridal and tried it on I knew it was the one. The staff at Ciara Bridal made the whole experience so special for me, my mam and my bridesmaids. My husband purchased his suits in Dublin Formal wear for himself, the three groomsmen and the fathers. I purchased the bridesmaids dresses from Chi Chi London.
We chose Ireland for our venue as we wanted our friends and family to be able to attend and share our special day. Mount Wolseley also had options of houses on the grounds and with the swimming pool, spa and golf course there was a number of things for people to do while they stayed over the weekend.
We both wanted our wedding to be relaxed, informal and fun for both our family and friends and stressfree. We found that having our ceremony onsite gave us more time to enjoy the reception with family and friends once our photos were taken. Our theme was a vintage feel, with soft pastel flowers and gorgeous props dotted around the hotel.
Of course we had to include a picture of our dog Bruce at the top table.
Our photographer was DK Photo. Daniel was a pleasure to deal with from the very beginning. On the day, he made us feel so relaxed and comfortable and you would hardly notice that he was there capturing all the magical moments. He was extremely professional, organised and friendly. His style of photography was exactly what we were looking for.
For our honeymoon, we went to Dubai and then on to Thailand where we visited Khao Lak, Elephant Hills and Karon beach. We left four days after the wedding, so it was a lovely way to wind down. Our favourite part of the honeymoon was definitely Elephant Hills where we stayed in a rainforest and got to wash and feed orphaned elephants. Day two of the trip was a night stay on the lake and it was an incredible experience surrounded by nature.
