Donnacha and I met through work in May 2015. We have known each other since 2009, and our paths eventually crossed in 2015. We had our first date in Glendalough in June 2015. After spending a whole day walking and talking in Glendalough, we both knew that we had just found something very special.

Donnacha proposed to me in January 2018 on a very cold night on top of the Rockefeller Centre in New York City. For once in my life, I was completely taken by surprise. Upon our return from New York, we immediately knew that, as two Dubs, we did not want a Dublin Wedding.

Donnacha and I both love to travel, so leaving Dublin for the weekend fitted right into our travel theme. From the start of our planning we had decided on the West of Ireland. Having attended a friend’s wedding in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, Co. Mayo in December 2017, it was an easy decision to pick our reception venue.

Breaffy House Resort offered us everything that we wanted.

There were fabulous grounds set on 90 acres, perfect for our pictures, five-star service, beautiful large ball room, wonderful food and amazing staff. We decided on a Saturday wedding to give our guests the option of a full weekend away from Dublin. We wanted the three-day wedding experience. In March 2018 we booked our wedding day at Breaffy House Resort. It was the best decision we made in our planning process.

The next big decision for me was my wedding dress.

I struck lucky with The Bridal Outlet, Baldoyle. I went with my mam and godmother and tried on five dresses and was ready to leave when Paula the shop assistant asked me to try on one last dress. This dress was by Margaret Mooreland and was called Allie. Yes, this was the dress. It was everything I wanted: simple, elegant and timeless. I felt a million dollars as I stood in the shop. My dress was finished off with a veil that my mam picked, also in The Bridal Outlet. I had my sister Siobhan as my maid of honour, my oldest friend Sarah McLoughlin and my two best friends from college, Aisling Free and Rebecca Stack. My bridesmaid dresses were bought in Alexander Bridal, Parnell Street in Dublin. Donnacha’s best friend, Cormac Doherty, was his best man. This was an easy decision as they have been friends since they were three. This ensured a good speech with plenty of stories about Donnacha. Donnacha also had his younger brother, Diarmuid Crowe, and his two closest friends, Colm Punch and Ciaran O’Callaghan. All the boys were dressed from head to toe in Swan Clothing in Finglas.

Our wedding day was nothing short of a fairy tale. I arrived at Breaffy House Resort on Thursday 13th June, and the celebrations started on Friday 14th June when over 250 guests arrived at Breaffy House Resort. We had a family meal on the Friday night. This was the best way to settle our nerves and for our families and friends to meet.

Saturday 15th June was our wedding day, and it was the most amazing day.

Hair and Makeup started at 8am. Hair was by Siobhan at LS hair Westport and make-up was by Hayley Coleman. Siobhan is an incredible lady and hairstylist. My flowers and decor were by Balla Florist, and my cake was Ivory Cakes, both excellent. Our photography and videography were by Castadiva, an Italian company based in Dublin. Arturo, our photographer, captured the spirit of our day just perfectly, and AT&T Chauffeurs in Meath were fab and got us to the church on time. Our church was the beautiful St. Patrick’s Church in the picturesque townland Islandeady, Co. Mayo. We chose this church due to its beautiful location, and it is only 20 minutes from Breaffy House. Upon our return to the hotel we had our photograph’s taken in the hotel and on the grounds. Our guests were treated to a champagne and beer reception as we mingled.

A highlight of our day was a visit to The Wine Cellar with our Bridal Party in the hotel.

It was a great way to take a few minutes for ourselves. We then danced the night away with our band, Late Night Radio. The next day we continued the celebrations with our family and friends with a BBQ in the hotel, and the celebrations well into the night again.

I cannot thank all the members of the wedding team at Breaffy House Resort enough, who made our day so very special and memorable.

We left Dublin to get a destination wedding, and we had that by having our day in Breaffy House Resort. I never wanted the day to end.
