Mark and I first met in 2006 when we were working together in a clothing shop during college. After a couple of years of friendship and a good few cinema dates we started to go out. We never really had a first date but one of those cinema dates would definitely count as it.
After returning home from a four-year adventure in Toronto, Mark proposed.
It was amazing to be home when we got engaged so we could enjoy celebrating with our family and friends.
After a busy few months for us both I decided to book a weekend away to Farnham Estate at the end of November 2017. Mark had let me book the weekend as he thought I would be suspicious if he had planned it all. We arrived just after 3pm and Mark really wanted to go and walk one of the gorgeous trails in the estate. I wasn’t as eager as it was raining and getting dark.
After a little persuasion, we went on one of the walks and what a walk in turned out to be! By the time we got to the end of the trail, it was almost dark. I was a little scared in the woods and suggested that we head back to the hotel and with that Mark was down on one muddy knee proposing! It was one of the best moments of my life. I was so, so happy, the two of us were.
Mark had only told my dad Declan, so we facetimed and called all our family and friends to tell them the big news! We were floating on cloud nine during this time – it was just amazing!
In January 2018, we set up some appointments to look at venues and after visiting a number of them we came across The Millhouse. We visited the beautiful Mill and grounds on a dark and rainy day in January and it was still beautiful. The ceremony room took our breath away, its rustic charm was something we hadn’t seen before.
We wanted something a little different for our venue, somewhere that was all ours for the day and The Millhouse was it.
Finding the dress took a few goes. Like the venue, the minute I walked into the White Room in Mullingar and met the lovely Caroline I had a feeling I would find my dress there. After trying on a few dresses, Caroline brought in the one I actually chose. I was trying it on for the skirt but when I looked in the mirror I just knew it was the one. My sister happened to be home from Canada for that particular shopping trip which made it even more special.
Anyone planning a wedding knows the lead up can be a little bit stressful. However the suppliers we chose were just amazing and really helped ease any stress. From our venue, photographer, and videographer, to our hair and make-up ladies they really were all unbelievable. You have to trust them, they do this day in day out, and that’s what we did. It really is so important to enjoy the lead up as it goes by with a blink of an eye.
Our wedding day for us was everything we could have wanted and more.
We had everyone we loved with us celebrating. Friends and family flew from the other side of the world to be there with us and for that we are so grateful. The day went off without a hitch and that is due to the amazing staff at The Millhouse. They could not have done enough for us on the day and on the lead up. We are so happy to have had our wedding day at The Millhouse. We can’t wait to go back as guests hopefully someday.
We originally were going to hold off on our honeymoon until 2020 but we decided to go for it and booked to head away a couple of days after the wedding. We went to the beautiful island of Mauritius and followed that with a couple of days in Dubai. It was such an amazing trip. Mauritius was out of this world. It was so nice to head away while we were still in the wedding bubble as it made it feel like a real honeymoon. We enjoyed every single minute.
